The Customer Product Development Specialist plays a key role in elevating our customers' brands by developing creative, innovative branding solutions (i.e. tags and labels) for apparel brand owners and retailers. This position is primarily responsible for coordinating all customer-facing product development processes to define new program requirements from point of initiation to customer approval. Provides expertise across product lines to enable the Account Executive to offer the customer total solutions. Works in close contact with Sales and Global Product Development teams in the GPD Hubs. Upsells customers to higher-value product features. Opportunity Description The Customer Product Development Specialist's primary job duties include: 1) Serves as primary and direct product development point of contact for U.S.-based customers. Responsible for gathering all necessary information/specifications from customer to effectively develop new programs or redesigns of existing programs to support achievement of Sales quota. 2) Accompanies or attends customer presentations as needed. Is the customer-facing product development expert, demonstrating comprehensive technical knowledge across all product lines. 3) Liaison between Sales (Account Executive) and Global Product Development Coordinator (GPDC) in the product development hubs. 4) Submits Development Request Tool (DRT) or equivalent for pricing requests to GPDC. Prepares global price proposals across all product lines, using established tools and guidelines. Calculates global program profitability. Consults with Sales Management, GPD Manager and GPD Director when competitive situations necessitate, using established escalation procedure. Gathers and lays out all product and program information, meets with GPD Manager as needed to complete solution pricing on complex projects. 5) Dependent upon customers' art transfer process may receive customer art. Coordinates with Creative Services, where new or revised conceptual art may be required and/or with GPDC to obtain an art proof. 6) Reviews customer sample requests and submits DRT or equivalent to GPDC. Coordinates and follows up on sampling completion with GPDC; receives sample package to include in customer presentation. For customer-approved programs, defines when customer requested counter-samples from global production locations are mandated; coordinates with GPDC on review & approval of counter-samples. 7) Applies judgment in preparing & advising Sales on total solutions with technical input from GPD, guiding GPDC in sampling priority conflicts, revising offerings based on customer feedback/rejection of proposals. 8) Upsells customers by presenting higher value product features/options that provide greater revenue and profit to Avery Dennison. 9) Receives feedback on pricing, art proofing, and samples directly from customer or Sales. Secures price, art proof and/or sample approval and communicates to appropriate GPD hub. 10) Coordinates and follows up closely with GPDC to ensure seamless deployment of items to production locations (e.g. Start-up packages). 11) Reviews production sites' requests relayed by the GPDC for pricing and/or specifications changes/deviations for compliance with the agreed-upon program parameters. Advises GPDC of approval/disapproval. 12) Maintains customer development activity internal log for any new or existing programs for each product line. Maintains & updates books containing approved samples, pricing, specifications or all retailer and brand owner specific custom reporting requirements relative to development. Requirements 1) Bachelor's degree or equivalent knowledge gained through training and experience. 2) Three or more years experience in program development, customer service, sales, sales support, or other related area. 3) Knowledge of the apparel or label industries. 4) Experince in Graphic Arts a plus. 5) Strong skills in planning & organizing work, judgment, initiative, tenacity. 6) Highly effective oral and written communication and presentation skills. Team leadership skills. 7) High level of PC skills, including use of with Word, Excel, ERP (Oracle preferred), pricing tools, product/customer databases. 8) Solid mathematical skills for pricing
